Celltone: How Should You Apply A Face Mask?

The when and why of using a face mask.

Face masks should not be considered a luxury that is only used when going for a facial or before a special event. Our skin is constantly under attack – from the environment as well as the inevitable process of aging. Masks help put back what time and nature take out. Different masks do different things – some masks nourish and moisturise dry, dehydrated skin, whilst others help to address blemishes and break outs.

The right facial mask depends predominantly on two things:

  1. Individual skin type.
  2. The unique requirements of your skin – which may change depending on the time of the year or your age.
How much your skin benefits from a face mask also depends on whether you are applying it correctly.
Prep your face
Applying a face mask without cleansing your face is a waste of time. The mask won’t work effectively until you rid your skin of stubborn dirt and grime. Use a gentle cleanser to unclog your pores, giving way for the face mask to better penetrate your skin.

Tip: Steam. As an additional prep before applying a face mask, consider using steam to dilate pores. You can take a hot shower or get a washcloth dipped in very warm water, covering your face with it for a few minutes until it cools down.
Use a mild exfoliant on your face before you apply the mask. This helps remove dead skin cells, ensuring your face mask treats the skin more effectively.

Toner removes the most stubborn grime and dirt from your face. It also preps your skin for efficient absorption of all active ingredients found in the facial mask.

Celltone’s No. 5 Mask is packed with Collagen, Keratin and Elastin to rehydrate dry, sagging, wrinkled skin.  It is recommended that you use the mask weekly to replace lost Collagen and Elastin.

Tip: Apply the product with a brush. If you don’t have a brush, warm the product between your fingertips to activate the ingredients found in the face mask.

Rinse well. A few splashes of water will not remove the mask properly. If you don’t remove all of the product, you may wind up with irritated or clogged skin. Rinse multiple times with lukewarm water. You can use a wash cloth, but make sure that you aren’t scrubbing. Remember, facial skin is particularly sensitive—especially after a mask.

Follow up your mask treatment with Tissue Oil and/or Celltone Gel to really nourish and revitalise your skin.
