How students benefit from Avon’s direct-selling business model.


Students and the youth in general have taken to explore alternative methods to raise some extra income. Considering this, many have decided to sell Avon products and have come on board as independent Representatives.


The advantages:

  1. They earn extra income during their studies or while looking for a job once they graduate.
  2. It’s excellent experience to add to their CV’s and helps them to stand out in the job market.
  3. They control their time and how much effort they can/want to put into the selling of products.


By allowing students to join Avon as independent Representatives, the students and youth empower themselves and learn valuable skills that they can easily apply to their future workplace.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) together with the Direct Selling Association of South Africa (DSA) have initiated a programme to help students earn an income and curb unemployment.

Through the programme, marketing and retail students are required to take-part in a direct selling project. They select a company whose business model is in line with direct selling, will come on board as a representative and market and sell their chosen products for the year. Through this initiative, students are exposed to the idea of direct selling and gain practical experience in marketing, selling and operating a business.

As Avon is one of the largest members of the DSA, students can pick Avon as their company of choice for the programme. Many have chosen Avon and have been extremely successful. Even after completing the programme, some have continued to sell Avon.

This programme, which Avon is thrilled to support yearly, provides immense opportunity for students to learn the practical side of business and marketing. They gain a valuable skillset that is sure to help them when they venture into the business world. The best part – the income they earn during the programme is all theirs!

Throughout the year, the DSA tracks the progress of its independent student Representatives and at the end of the year, the top three students are recognised at the annual DSA luncheon held to recognise industry leaders.

This initiative has had a continually positive affect on the students, helping them gain business and management skills, and it’s a bonus that Avon is a part of this process!
