Winter is definitely upon us and with that comes all new trends. The stores in Sandton City are awash with items straight outta the 70’s. With this trend it is all about suede, wide-leg silhouettes, button down skirts and paisley printed flowing items. Let’s not forget the disco period of the Seventies so metallic and sequins are also still around.
Personally, I cannot really pull off this period in time. I’m not into flowing locks and paisley but I do love a few pieces from this trend that I can make work for my style. The trick is to mix a trend with your own style and pick items that make you feel comfortable, and that you think that you will be wearing for seasons to come rather than just the current season. For me I would pair my top five items with some sophisticated and clean silhouettes rather than go full seventies but if you can pull off some of Pandora’s looks below then go for it! Leandra Medine would be my Seventies style icon in her very wide flares and simple top.
Ways to wear the trend:
Suede skirt with a clean knit and some cool and modern boots.
Wide legs with some pointed ballerinas to keep it classic or in summer some simple sandals and a simple blouse.
Tailored dungarees with a beautiful blouse underneath and mannish brogues.
Clog with flared jeans and a trench.
These are my top five 70s pieces that you can work into your wardrobe like a pro:
Wide-leg denims or trousers
Button up skirts in suede or denim
Suede dresses: shift dresses or long flared sleeve silhouettes
