Le Coq Sportif goes to Soweto – Maponya Store opening

Johannesburg, 19 October 2012

Maponya mall was a flutter yesterday, as Le coq sportif hosted the official launch of their eighth concept store since 2008. Their VIP guests, consisting of lifestyle media, local fashion personalities, celebrities, bloggers and partnering brands were chauffeured in a fleet of the latest Citroën DS4 and DS5 range. Their host for the day was none other than Jacaranda FM DJ Robbie Cruse, who entertained guests with a live interview with Le coq sportif brand ambassadors “Chiliboy” Ralepelle of the Blue bulls and Robert Eberson of the Cheetahs on how they live the brand. Urban sounds of house and deep house rocked the store with Le coq sportif resident DJ squad on the decks – DJ somebody, DJ 2mza Lehipi and DJ DVQ, creating an amazing vibe with the crowd. This all created a funky vibe with guests were shopping with their generous vouchers provided as gifts from Le coq sportif.

Drinks and food were aplenty but the cherry on the soufflé of the day was the live performance from Kwaito legend Mandoza. He performed his most track which is revised on his latest CD, which got not only the invited guests, but also the crowds outside the store dancing to the beat.

Bringing a proud history of over 130 years of style and sporting heritage, locals at the mall will get to experience the French flair that is Le Coq Sportif in their own back yard. Forget ‘je ne sais quoi’, Le Coq Sportif brings a truly French authenticity into its stores and fashion lines, which the Maponya Mall shopper can now experience and enjoy.

For a month – commencing on the 15th of October, and running until the 15th of November – Le Coq Sportif is a proud partner of Plaisirs de France. This is an initiative to develop ties between the French government and local business to stimulate tourism between France and South Africa. The goal of these ‘Seasons’ is to improve mutual understanding and contribute to the diversification of France’s image in South Africa and the perception of South Africa in France. The aim is to achieve this by emphasizing the modernity and values that the two countries share.
